As we all know, Florida is one of the biggest pickleballing states in the U.S. Its pleasant climate means all-year-round outdoor play is more than possible. Bearing this in mind, it’s not surprising that Tallahassee has only just now opened its first indoor facility.
The Pickle Pad
Indoor Active Brands’ latest endeavor, The Pickle Pad, is reshaping a sprawling 27,000-square-foot indoor space into a social hotspot, with pickleball most definitely the star attraction.
Situated in the heart of the state capital, this establishment is the first Pickle Pad in the nation, with plans already underway for expansion into the rest of Florida and beyond. Formerly home to Altitude Trampoline Park, the venue sits adjacent to Planet Fitness at 1925 North Monroe Street following the closure of its predecessor in August.
The Ideal Launchpad
Robert Morris, Indoor Active Brands’ Vice President of Development, highlighted Tallahassee’s appeal as the ideal launchpad. Speaking to the Tallahassee Democrat, Morris said, “Tallahassee is a great place to open up the first concept for the brand.”
Morris explained that the space was inclusive and catered to seasoned pickleball enthusiasts and newcomers seeking a “casual, fun pickleball experience.”
Six Indoor Courts
Featuring six indoor courts, The Pickle Pad promises many entertainment options beyond pickleball, including cornhole, darts, and the cutting-edge PICLZ Pickleball Training Simulator. Completing the experience is a restaurant and bar managed by Crave Social Eatery, which is currently fine-tuning its delectable menu offerings.
“Pickleball is obviously the main draw for the venue, but I think overall, at the end of the day, the biggest draw is just going to be the ability to do so many different activities,” Morris added.
Tallahassee’s Exploding Pickleball Scene
Tallahassee’s exploding pickleball scene reflects a state-wide enthusiasm for the sport, with recent initiatives like the opening of Four Oaks Park responding to the increased demand. Leon County‘s commitment to pickleball is evident, with plans for additional courts underway, as highlighted by Mathieu Cavell, the county’s Community and Media Relations Director.
With over 350 active members, the Tallahassee Pickleball Association eagerly anticipates utilizing The Pickle Pad’s facilities. JoAnn Cox, a director for the association, expressed enthusiastic support for the indoor venue, citing the community’s longing for more dedicated pickleball courts within the city limits. Cox’s response to the news of The Pickle Pad’s arrival was unequivocal: “Abso-damn-lutely.”
“The pickleball community’s excited to have this opportunity to play inside. We just want to learn more, ” she added.
She noted there are very few specifically designated pickleball courts in the city, forcing association members to use multi-use courts to play.
