Pickleball is on the rise in the nation’s capital, with many leagues, clubs, and courts popping up throughout the District. Responding to the demand for more court space in Washington, Kraken will be opening the doors to their newly constructed Kraken Kourts.
Kraken Kourts will be the largest indoor pickleball facility in Washington D.C. The business contains 16 standalone, regulation-sized courts, a huge 40-foot long bar, and plenty of spectator seating.
Located in D.C.’s Edgewood neighborhood in the MRP Bryant Street Development, Kraken Kourts was created by Anna Valero, president of Kraken Axes and Rage. Valero noticed the increasing demand for pickleball courts in the D.C. area, and she decided to bring to life a facility that will meet the needs of the local pickleball community.
According to the District’s Department of Parks and Recreation, there are approximately 34 outdoor pickleball courts in D.C. The DPR first announced their support for pickleball programs in the park systems, and pickleball has grown tremendously in Washington D.C. ever since.
However, the outdoor parks in D.C. have limited space for recreational activities like pickleball. Community pickleball players in clubs, such as Washington DC Pickleball, began noticing the need for more court space.
With Kraken Kourts’s arrival into the D.C. pickleball scene, the growing playerbase will have a perfect place to host both casual matches and even pro-level tournaments.
D.C. recently hosted an official Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour event, the n2grate DC Open. This drew the attention of pickleball fans across the nation, putting D.C. on the pro pickleball map.
Pickleball is an inherently social game, bringing together people of all ages and skill levels to the court for a fun and exciting experience. Kraken Kourts will be an incredible asset, not just to seasoned pickleball enthusiasts, but also to families in the surrounding Washington metropolitan area.
Kraken Kourts plans on opening next month, January 2023. Stay tuned to Kraken’s website for further grand opening announcements.
