As a reviewer, I aim to be objective, detailed, and honest—because you deserve the full picture, good and bad. But every once in a while, a product genuinely blows me away.
Ombraz armless sunglasses are one of those. I’ve been using them daily—yes, daily—since testing my first Viale pair last fall. They earned 4.75/5 balls and even made my Top 10 Pickleball Products of 2024.
Now, after 3 months with a second pair—prescription, photochromic, and worn on and off the court—I’m giving them a full 5/5. Functional, durable, and game-changing, especially for daily play.

But First… A Quick Product Refresher
Ombraz (pronounced Ohm-brez—from the Italian word for shade) was born out of a simple frustration: traditional sunglass arms pinch, slip, and fall off—especially during sweaty, active days. The founders, Nikolai and Jensen—both adventurous, outdoorsy types—set out to fix that.
Their solution? The first major redesign to sunglasses in 250 years: ditch the arms and add a built-in adjustable cord. The result? Glasses that are lightweight, secure, ultra-packable, and actually stay on your face.
They also made sure they’re tough and optically perfect—using aircraft-grade thermoplastic resin and Zeiss optics from Germany. Add in six models, multiple frame and lens color options, full UVA/UVB protection, and a lifetime warranty—and you’ve got sunglasses that are stylish and built for performance.
Long story short: they nailed the design. And yes, they’re perfect for pickleball (and pretty much anything else that makes you move and sweat).
Getting My Prescription Ombraz
My first pair of Viale Ombraz were a win—comfortable, protective, and crystal clear. But with some nearsightedness and age-related close-up vision loss creeping in, I knew it was time to upgrade to prescription.
I ordered the Viale narrow frames with progressive, photochromic lenses—perfect for indoor and outdoor play, adjusting to light automatically. Ombraz partners with Lens & Frame Co. in California for their prescription lenses, and the experience was seamless—high-quality products, stellar service.
Three weeks later, they arrived. The fit? Perfect. The prescription? Spot on. Lens clarity? Flawless. I couldn’t wait to get them on the court.
(And yes—I gifted my original pair to a fellow rec player who now wears them for every match!)
With the progressive, photochromic lenses, I can see clearly at all distances—whether I’m serving close-up or tracking a baseline drive. The narrow Viale frame offers a surprisingly wide field of vision, and the light-adjusting lenses shift quickly from nearly clear indoors to dark outdoors.
I even wear them while driving—great clarity, less glare, thanks to the polarized lenses.
2. Fit & Comfort
The lightweight frame fits perfectly for my face and on my nose, and after a couple of days adjusting to the cord, it became second nature. No more temple pressure, pinching, or sliding frames. They stay put, even during sweaty pickleball sessions—and double as a secure strap when not worn.
Bonus: I added the optional side shields for extra sun protection and they’ve been great for low-angle sunlight.
3. Durability
I’m rough on gear—pickleball, hiking, biking, fishing, and yard work—and these things have taken a beating with zero damage. No scratches, no cracks, no complaints. (Okay, I do clean them properly, as we all should.)
The included neoprene case with built-in cloth? A very thoughtful touch.
Ombraz Styles & Customization Options
While I tested the Viale (a sleek, narrow-frame favorite), Ombraz offers five additional styles, each designed with active wearers in mind. You can choose from three frame colors—Tortoise, Charcoal, and Matte Brown—and four lens options: Polarized Grey, Polarized Brown, Polarized Yellow, or Clear.
Need vision support? All lenses are available with prescription add-ons—including clear prescription lenses for indoor or low-light play.
Your paddle skills and court hustle are only half the equation—clear vision and eye protection matter just as much. That’s where Ombraz comes in. These glasses stay put during intense play, offer top-tier clarity, and protect your eyes from both sun and stray smashes. Add in prescription and photochromic lens options, and you’ve got all-day, all-light coverage.
And here’s the bonus feel-good factor: for every pair sold, Ombraz plants 20 mangrove trees, making each purchase carbon negative. So yes, you’re not just seeing better—you’re doing better, too.
Pickle on my friends, pickle on.
