The “one-of-a-kind” Shake Shack Pickleball Club rocks into Miami-Dade county on April 29 as part of the company’s nationwide Stand For Something Good® program.

Shake Shack will lay on an intensive and participatory event where rookie and veteran pickleballers can play, learn and compete, all in conjunction with Chicago’s leading racquet sports provider, Toss & Spin.

The occasion will be split into three sections: a pickleball introduction, a session for advanced beginners and intermediates, and a round-robin tournament.

Continuing the great charity aspect the Shake Shack Pickleball Club always includes in their shows, The Stand For Something Good® project will donate 25% of the ticket sales to the Overtown Youth Center run by the Mourning Family Foundation. The foundation works with at-risk youth in the most underserved areas of South Florida.

Shake Shack will provide a selection of signature beverages all day, including Shack20 and their delicious lemonade. For those who prefer something a little strong, beer and Spritz Society sparkling canned cocktails will also be on offer.

As if that wasn’t enough, ticket holders will also be provided with a complimentary voucher which you can exchange for a free ShackBurger when you pay your next visit to Shake Shack.

Spaces are restricted, so a valid ticket is required. Your access will include entry and participation, unlimited refreshments, exclusive SSPC merchandising, a free Shackburger voucher redeemable on your next visit to a Shake Shack outlet, and a donation to the Mourning Family Foundation Overtown Youth Center program. The lucky tournament winners will also be presented with a limited edition Recess X Shake Shack pickleball paddle.

Visit the website for further details and to register.

The day’s event program will be as follows:

Intro to Pickleball Clinic: 1:30-2:30 PM

The clinic is aimed at beginners and beginner intermediates. It will use music and lots of movement to teach techniques, with participants also able to take part in scratch games. Don’t worry if you don’t own a paddle, as they will be provided.

Cost: $45 per person

Clinic for Advanced beginners and intermediates: 2:45-3:45 PM

This session is aimed at those players who have reached a stage where they are adept enough to maintain consistent rallies. If you’d like to crank up your pickleball skills and IQ, this class is a great way to take the next step and start thinking about tournament play.

Cost: $45 per person

Round Robin Tournament: 4-6 PM

The highlight of the day is this round-robin tournament, including men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles divisions. Again, paddles will be available for those that don’t own one.

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
