Some of the most promising up-and-coming talents in professional pickleball attended the first installment of the 2024 Next Gen Series at Chicken N Pickle in San Antonio.

More than 80 skilled players engaged in a dynamic three-day event encompassing tournament clashes, coaching sessions, and informative seminars.

Women’s Doubles

Riley Bohnert and Ava Kalist showcased their dominance in the Women’s Doubles division, exhibiting flawless gameplay as they surged through the competition unscathed. Their impeccable performance culminated in a commanding 11-2, 11-7 victory over Lauren Mercado and Alia Brown in the finals.

Men’s Doubles

In the Men’s Doubles category, Jack Munro and Richard Livornese emerged as formidable contenders, triumphing not once but twice over the weekend. Their prowess shone brightest in a thrilling encounter against Jayden Broderick and Jack Foster, securing both the alternate men’s doubles bracket on Friday and the open men’s doubles bracket on Saturday.

Mixed Doubles

Mixed doubles saw the dominant partnership of Brooke Revuelta and Jackson Ayotte seize the spotlight right from the outset. Their seamless coordination led them to clinch the title without dropping a single game throughout the tournament, culminating in a decisive 11-7, 11-3 victory over Isabella Nelson and Elijah Bertram in the final showdown.

Women’s Singles

The Women’s Singles event witnessed Brooke Revuelta’s remarkable display of skill and resilience. Following her triumph in mixed doubles, Revuelta battled through a series of intense matchups, including a memorable encounter against Alexa Schull in the semifinals.

Undeterred, she emerged victorious, securing her second title of the event with a hard-fought 11-9, 11-9 victory over Riley Bohnert in the final climax.

Men’s Singles

In the fiercely contested Men’s Singles category, Eric Oncins continued his ascent up the pickleball ladder. In the final stretch of his collegiate tennis journey at Florida Gulf Coast University, Oncins navigated a challenging singles draw to claim the coveted title, prevailing over Spencer Lanier in a gripping finale.

With her stellar performances, Revuelta solidified her position atop the competition leaderboard, while Richard Livornese claimed the top spot among the male competitors, rounding off an electrifying weekend of elite pickleball action.

APP Founder Ken Herrmann got the tournament underway with some stirring words, “

“If it’s Chicken N Pickle, that means NEXT GEN time! The first $15k APP Next Gen takes us back to San Antonio where we have crowned some of our sport’s top players- JW & Jorja Johnson, Gabriel Tardio, Mary & Maggie Brascia and Dylan Frazier.

“APP U.S.Next Gen National Team member and defending San Antonio champion, Spencer Lanier, is here and looking to repeat his 2023 victory. Who will be crowned Next Gen?

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
