In my role, I’m lucky to work with both global brands and small businesses, but I’ve always had a soft spot for the little guys. They pour their heart, soul, and resources into competing—and Stinger Paddles is a perfect example.

Enter Vivek, founder of this North Carolina paddle brand. A former tennis player and tech exec turned pickleball enthusiast, Vivek wanted a paddle that truly met his needs. Starting with the Stinger Gen 1 and refining through Gen 2, he recently launched the Stinger MC-3—his best yet.

I tested the MC-3, expecting a solid but standard paddle, and was blown away. Beneath its straightforward design is a proprietary feature that gives it an edge. With great control, innovation, and a budget-friendly price, it earned my highest rating—5 balls!

First Impressions

Right out of the box, the paddle stands out with its clean and simple design, featuring a sleek black, white, and red color scheme and a unique checkerboard woven carbon fiber face. The 5.5” grip length is ideal for two-handed backhands—a personal favorite. Bonus points for the included neoprene cover, which is always a nice touch.

A few customary air swings confirmed the paddle’s fast, balanced feel—exactly what I’d hoped for. With the weighting spot-on, it was time to hit the courts and put it to the test.

Game On… The Play Testing

My first session with the paddle began with indoor wall drills and pitching machine shots. Starting with dinks and drops, I noticed the paddle’s excellent touch and control right away. Its lightweight design, paired with great balance and impressive twist weight, made soft, targeted shots feel natural and effortless.

Transitioning between forehand and backhand was smooth, and I could already sense how the perimeter weighting expanded the sweet spot.

Power Check: Controlled and Reliable

When it came to power and pop, the paddle delivered average performance, but it wasn’t designed for raw power. Instead, it excelled at finesse and control. That said, I was able to deliver solid, powerful returns when needed.

Feeling ready for more dynamic play, I was eager to see how it performed during actual games.

Spin, Placement, and Control

Without modifying the paddle—no grip enhancements or added weight—I headed to the courts for some rec play with my usual group. This was my chance to truly test its capabilities, especially the spin potential of the 18K woven carbon fiber face.

After a quick warm-up, I started serving. Three serves in, the paddle delivered enough power while generating plenty of spin. Speed-ups resulted in precise placement, and that large sweet spot proved highly effective.

But the real magic happened at the kitchen line. The paddle shined with superb dinks and quick, controlled volley returns. Its lower weight and unique perimeter weighting gave me the confidence to stay aggressive while maintaining control.

Final Thoughts on Game Performance

After several games that evening (and a follow-up session later in the week), the paddle continued to impress. Whether it was the paddle’s game-changing design or just me having a great day, it felt like the perfect combination of control, precision, and playability. Either way, this paddle has earned a spot in my rotation!

Check out my video review of the Stinger MC-3:

From the Founder

A conversation with Vivek, Stinger’s founder, revealed his clear vision: create a paddle focused on exceptional control with a high twist weight and enlarged sweet spot, similar to wide-body paddles like the Diadem Max—but much lighter and arm-friendly.

After 9 months of development, the MC-3 was born. Its standout feature? Proprietary perimeter weighting achieved through precise material selection and small-batch craftsmanship. The result is a paddle that’s light, fast, and performance-ready, requiring no added weighting—one of the lightest paddles with top-tier twist weight.

Stinger MC3 Paddle Ratings

Kudos to Vivek, essentially a one-man show with a laser focus on crafting a paddle that delivers outstanding control and just the right amount of power for all-court play. The Stinger MC-3 hits the mark perfectly. I’d compare it to the Franklin FS Tour Featherweight, Holbrook Mav Pro, and Diadem Edge 18K Power Max for its fast, agile precision and arm-friendly design. At $150, it’s a fantastic value.
