When functionality, quality, durability, and style all come together, reviewing a product becomes a real pleasure. That’s exactly what I found in a surprisingly essential piece of gear—a court bag. It may not involve high-tech innovation, but smart materials, thoughtful features, solid construction, and real-world capacity matter a lot.
Diadem recently sent us their Tour V3 Backpack to test, and I’ve put it through its paces—hauling gear to and from the courts and discovering some unexpected off-court uses too.
While I have a couple of small suggestions for improvement, I’m happy to give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 balls.
- Holds up to 4 paddles or rackets
- Separate shoe/sweaty gear compartment
- Tons of pockets for easy organization
- Sleek, lightweight, and court-ready

First Impressions
Right out of the box, the Tour V3 Backpack felt solid and well-built—no surprise, as I’ve tested over 20 Diadem products in the past year and found them all consistently high quality. The styling is sleek and understated. I chose the gunmetal version with orange accents, and it looks sharp without being flashy.
What stood out immediately were the padded woven nylon fabric, beefy zippers, ventilated straps and back panel, and the separate shoe compartment. The bag looked bigger than a typical backpack, and I was curious to test its real capacity.

Diadem claims it fits 3 paddles and shoes up to a men’s size 12, plus gear. In my test, it held 4 paddles, my size 12 shoes, 4 balls, a large water bottle, keys, a phone, and even an extra shirt. I took it on a one-mile walk fully loaded, and the padded straps and back kept things comfortable the whole way.
The Nitty Gritty + Comparisons

- Full-size backpack
- 3 zippered + 2 main pockets
- 3-4 paddles
To keep things apples-to-apples, I’m comparing the Diadem Tour V3 Backpack to two other bags I’ve tested or used: the Franklin Pickleball Sling Bag ($35) and the Engage Pro Players Backpack ($90). The Franklin is a compact, one-strap sling bag available in six two-tone colors, while the Engage is a full-size backpack that’s two inches taller than the Diadem and comes in three colors.
All three easily carry at least three paddles, a water bottle, a few balls, keys, wallet, and a phone—but they differ quite a bit in materials, features, and overall comfort. Here’s a quick breakdown:
| Feature | Diadem Tour V3 | Franklin Sling Bag | Engage Pro Backpack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $84.95 | $35 | $90 |
| Bag Type | Full-size backpack | One-strap sling | Full-size backpack |
| Main Fabric | Padded woven nylon | Non-padded Cordura | Heavy-duty polyester |
| Padding (Back/Straps) | Yes, breathable & cushioned | Light padding | Modest padding |
| Paddle Capacity | 3–4 paddles comfortably | 2–3 paddles | 3–4 paddles |
| Exterior Pockets | 3 zippered + 2 main compartments | 3 zippered pockets | 4 zippered pockets |
| Interior Dividers | Yes (2 padded) | No | Minimal |
| Shoe Compartment | Yes (fits up to men’s size 12) | No | Yes (roomier) |
| Water Bottle Holder | Yes (fits 20–32 oz) | Yes (smaller, tight fit) | Yes (fits 20–32 oz) |
| Zippers | Durable, smooth, easy-grab | Good, slightly smaller pulls | Best-in-class loop zipper pulls |
| Color Options | 5 two-tone | 6 two-tone | 3 solid colors |
| Grab Handle/Hanger Loop | Yes (sturdy loop, no fence hook) | Yes (includes fence hook) | Yes (no fence hook) |
The Tour V3 lands in a sweet spot between compact and oversized—it’s more refined than the Franklin and nearly as roomy as the Engage, with smarter features and more premium materials.
A slightly roomier front pocket and a fence hook would make it even better, but overall, it holds its own against the competition—and then some.
Versatility? Yes, Please!
Thanks to its padded exterior, interior dividers, and tough woven build and heavy duty stitching, the Diadem Tour V3 quickly became more than just a court bag for me—it’s now a go-to for both business and leisure travel. It protects my laptop and tech gear just as well as it handles pickleball equipment, while still leaving room for toiletries, a jacket, and other essentials.
And with its solid construction, I’m confident it can handle the bumps and scrapes of travel without showing much wear.

Functionally, the Diadem Tour V3 is a strong performer—especially for pickleball gear. While it’s priced higher than most backpacks, that cost reflects its heavy-duty materials and durable construction. I also appreciate its versatility; it easily doubles as a personal carry-on for air travel, with room for a laptop, tablet, speakers, and other essentials.
If it had a roomier front phone pocket, a built-in fence hook, and space for larger shoes, it would be pushing a perfect score. The Engage Pro Players Backpack offers similar functionality and better external pocket design, but it costs more and doesn’t match the Diadem’s rugged build.
On the budget end, the Franklin Sling Bag is solid at $35—but with lower capacity and no shoe compartment, it’s best suited for lighter loads.
- Holds up to 4 paddles or rackets
- Separate shoe/sweaty gear compartment
- Tons of pockets for easy organization
- Sleek, lightweight, and court-ready
