Pickleball continues to grow at the international level, and the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) continues to prove its support of the sport’s expanding culture. The APP has announced that it has partnered with Pickleball Sweden as the primary promoting partner for the 2023 GAMMA Sweden Open.
We’ve seen the APP partner with other global pickleball entities before, including the recent sponsorship of the 2023 English Open with Pickleball England. The APP will be the first pickleball organization to partner with the Pickleball Sweden Club for its premier national tournament, running from September 22-24 in Helsingborg, Sweden.
The 2023 GAMMA Sweden Open will be the third year of the event, which is comprised of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles brackets for a wide range of age groups and skill levels. Over 250 players from all over Europe are expected to participate in the event, taking place on 22 courts spanning two adjacent facilities – the Idrottens Hus and Teknikhallen.
The Sweden Open saw an incredible amount of support last year, being well-received as an inclusive, family-friendly, and overall fun event. Gustaf Geterud, the Head of Ambassadorships at GAMMA Sweden, says they knew a partnership with the APP would be perfect, as their organizations’ principles perfectly aligned.
“As an avid player myself, I want to make sure that all our competitors compete in a world-class environment, something the APP is rightly known for. Last year we received a large number of positive reviews for creating an event that had a fun, friendly, inclusive atmosphere – precisely the same as all APP events, so our new partnership with the APP is perfect to help us continue to elevate our event for everyone who takes part.”

Ken Herrmann, Founder of the APP, also weighed in on the new partnership, stating, “It is the dream of every European pickleball player to visit the USA and play a tournament there, and our ambition for this year’s event in Sweden is to bring a taste of what makes pickleball in its home country so exciting. So my message to Swedish players is this – it’s time to get excited about this tournament!”
It’s exciting to see pickleball continue to grow on the world stage, and the APP’s efforts to bolster that growth with its platform will be instrumental to pickleball’s continued rise.
