It’s lift-off from Houston, Texas! The previous two days’ play has delivered some top-notch pickleball, and as we approach Championship Sunday, the APP Houston Open is set for five more thrilling matches for your viewing pleasure.
Due to inclement weather, the professional matches were moved to an indoor venue on Thursday, setting the stage for intriguing pro singles matchups on Championship Sunday.
Pro Gold Preview
Salome Devidze, a silver medalist in Dallas, and Judit Castillo, a seasoned Championship Sunday contender, will vie for the women’s pro singles gold.
On the men’s side, Quang Duong and Ronan Camron, relatively new faces, will face off in the men’s pro singles.
Megan Fudge and Jaume Martinez Vich secured bronze in their respective brackets.
The formidable pair of Alix Truong and Vivian Glozman, aiming for their sixth consecutive women’s pro doubles medal, will take on the highly successful team of Megan Fudge and Susannah Barr for the gold. Tararyn Emmerich and Mari Humberg claimed the bronze.
In mixed pro doubles, John Cincola and Tamaryn Emmrich will go up against Andrei Daescu and Barr, who have already secured six golds in this division this year. Fudge and Jack Munro secured the bronze in that division.
Daescu will then contend for men’s pro doubles gold with Rob Nunnery, also eyeing their seventh title of the year. Jaume Martinez Vich and Kyle Yates left with the bronze.
Don’t miss a second of Championship Sunday action – the livestream starts at 9 A.M. CT on APPTV on YouTube and continues at 2 P.M. CT on CBS Sports Network.
Alix Truong
Alex was understandably thrilled about making it to the final of the women’s double and told APP: “O-M-G, we just won the winner’s bracket final! This was Viv’s and my first time going straight to gold.
“The other times that we made Sunday, we had to play through the bronze match. So it’s a nice and different feeling to be done early on. I can kick my shoes off, relax, watch the bronze match, and make sure that I have a relaxing evening so that I’m rejuvenated in the morning.”
Spectator Seating And Rules Of Engagement
Truong is only 18 but is already carving out a stellar career. We wish her the best of luck.
A quick reminder about the venue: The grounds pass fee of $15 will still be applicable today. The cost includes access to stadium seating.
