New York’s popular pickleball pop-up, CityPickle, will now be opening a permanent pickleball club later this year.
CityPickle has officially announced that it plans on opening a new year-round facility, located at The Woodworks in Long Island City. The large industrial property will be home to four climate-controlled courts, which will allow players in New York to play pickleball all year long!
Beyond the needed courtspace, CityPickle will also offer dining and cocktail accommodations with a dedicated lounge area. This confluence of pickleball and social gathering continues to grow with the popularity of the sport, as many similar business ventures pop up all across the nation.
The founders of CityPickle, Erica Desai and Mary Cannon, founded the business last year with the goal of bringing the game that they love to New York City. After creating several pop up courts throughout the city, including one right at JFK Airport, CityPickle will finally have a permanent facility for the New York pickleball community to call home.
Courts will be open to the public at the Long Island City facility, with additional coaching programs available for players of all skill levels. Citypickle also plans on offering court reservations for private events, team-building exercises, and for pickleball league tournaments.
New York’s pickleball community has been in serious need of designated pickleball courts for a long time now. Facilities like CityPickle are just what the city’s player base needs in order to thrive and grow.
Indoor pickleball courts in particular are in short supply in NYC, making it difficult for players to stay on top of their game during the snowy winter months of the year.
CityPickle is a perfect solution to that problem. Instead of having to fight over community court space with tennis players, pickleball players will have a place to call home when playing outdoors simply isn’t an option.
The new Long Island City facility is slated to open in late spring or early summer this year. Stay tuned to CityPickle’s website for more updates about the venue’s grand opening.
