The City of Pasadena inaugurated new pickleball courts at Jefferson Elementary School on September 29 and announced a tournament in November.
Block Party And Tournament
Vice Mayor Felicia Williams, accompanied by city officials from Public Works and Parks & Recreation, along with competitive pickleball players from the Pasadena Fire Department, joined local enthusiasts for the event.
Parks and Recreation Commissioners and Mike Alviridiz, Pasadena Pickleball Ambassador, also attended.
According to Pasadena Now, Vice Mayor Williams was delighted with the transformation of the Jefferson campus into a community asset and took the time to thank the Pasadena Unified School District for their collaboration.
She also announced a block party and pickleball tournament scheduled for Saturday, November 4th, at the Jefferson Elementary courts.
Rising Demand For Pickleball
These new courts reflect the Californian capital city’s ongoing commitment to meeting the rising demand for pickleball, which has surged in popularity in the Pasadena area.
Tony Olmos from Public Works revealed that the city now boasts 13 pickleball courts, including the five in District 2, encompassing the newly opened Jefferson courts. These facilities will be accessible during daylight hours due to the absence of night-time lighting.
In response to escalating demand and extended wait times at venues like McDonald Park and Allendale Park, the Pasadena City Council approved the construction of two temporary pickleball courts at Jefferson Elementary School last November.
Situated at 1500 E Villa Street, the new courts will be operational weekdays from 8 a.m. to dusk and on weekends from 9 a.m. to sunset. The Council allocated a budget of $169,944 for this project.
