The Dolphin Foundation will host its annual pickleball tournament fundraiser, “Pickleball for the Pod,” on April 20 on Dana Hills High School tennis courts in Dana Point, California, about 50 miles south of Los Angeles.

Fundraising Initiatives

Every year, The Dolphin Foundation, a parent-operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity, holds fundraising initiatives and investigates various avenues to gather funds for Dana Hills High School. Presently, the group’s focus is on attracting contributions to convert the school’s library into a versatile learning hub.

This center aims to cater to diverse student needs and accommodate varied learning techniques. Its establishment promises to improve the standard of education on offer and give students a more dynamic, contemporary, and pertinent learning environment that involves a more innovative pedagogical approach.

With the project’s estimated cost pegged at $150,000, inaccessible via California state funding, the Dolphin Foundation has stepped in to aid in achieving this objective.

Pickleball For The Pod

The forthcoming Pickleball for the Pod tournament is a new strategy the Foundation has embraced in its search for innovative fundraising methods. The tournament is open to participants of all proficiency levels and will feature categories for novice, intermediate, and advanced players across men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles tournaments.

Additionally, a junior bracket accommodating competitors aged 10 to 18 and a unique “Family Feud” category, pitting mother-son and father-daughter duos against each other, will add to the event’s excitement and family-friendly atmosphere.

Enrollment in a single session costs $60 per individual, while participation in two sessions costs $110 and three sessions costs $160. The sessions are allocated to men’s, women’s, and doubles matches, while the potential third session caters to the Family Feud contest. Participants register as teams but fees are remitted individually.

This is the total price based on the number of sessions each player registers for (up to a maximum of three).

For example: If a female player is signed up for Women’s Doubles (Session 1) and Mixed Doubles (Session 2), she would pay $110. Her partner for Women’s Doubles would pay for herself separately ($60), and her partner for Mixed Doubles would pay for himself separately ($60).

Payment is due at the time of signup based on the number of sessions each athlete is playing.

After registering, you need to return to the SignUp page to pay.

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
