A groundbreaking entertainment venue opens on Saturday, August 25th, 2023, at 2700 NE 82nd Avenue, Portland, Oregon.

An Indoor And Outdoor Oasis

Spread over an impressive 48,000 square feet, The People’s Courts offers leisure enthusiasts an indoor and outdoor oasis. Inside, a vibrant assortment of pickleball courts, bocce ball, ping pong, cornhole, a 9-hole disc golf putting course, an arcade, and two exceptional restaurants await.

Stepping inside, you’ll find an arrangement reminiscent of a lively bowling alley. The main level houses entry points, two bars/restaurants, an arcade, and a pro shop.

Venture down a level, and you’ll be greeted by sunken courts — strikingly visible from the hospitality area. This reimagined space was formerly an AMF bowling alley and, more recently, “The Lumberyard,” an indoor BMX bike park.

Fourteen Pickleball Courts

At the heart of The People’s Courts stand five full-size Pickleball courts, along with two “skinny singles” courts and a unique “dinkum” court — all indoors. However, the entertainment doesn’t stop there; just across the street lies an outdoor haven boasting six additional pickleball courts and a covered seating area for relaxation and mingling.

The beer and the food should be top-notch as the People’s Courts has partnered with culinary luminaries Brian Spangler and Nate Tilden, ensuring an unforgettable dining experience.

On the western side, indulge in pizzeria delights from Brian Spangler of Apizza Scholls fame, while the eastern realm houses “The Kitchen,” curated by Tilden, celebrated owner of Clyde Common and Olympia Provisions Co-Founder.

“Positive Connections”

The local enthusiasm is palpable, as Adam Skyles, Principal of McDaniel High School across the street, shares, “We are ecstatic for our new neighbors to join the community.” The synergy with The People’s Courts is clear — a shared dedication to fostering positive connections. The owners — Dave Schrott, Dave Sacks, and Robert Sacks — boast a legacy of contributions to Portland’s culinary and tourism landscape.

“After a total interior and exterior renovation, we’re excited to open this unique space for quality recreational experiences, focusing on building a fun and social atmosphere,” notes Dave Sacks, Co-owner of The People’s Courts.

For the grand opening weekend, special opening hours are from Friday, 8/25 (5pm – 10pm), Saturday, 8/26 (noon-midnight), and Sunday, 8/27 (noon-10pm).

A lively celebration is in the offing with a live DJ, raffles, beer and wine samples, and community bonding.

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
