Good news Florida, you’ve got even more pickleball courts coming your way! St. Pete Athletic will be Tampa Bay’s first indoor pickleball athletic club, offering 16 indoor and outdoor courts, a full-scale restaurant and bar, and other amenities.
From the legendary Pictona at Holly Hill to the Naples Pickleball Center, Florida is known for having many of the world’s premier pickleball facilities. However, the Tampa Bay area has been in desperate need of dedicated pickleball courts.
St. Pete Athletic plans on filling that gap for Tampa Bay pickleball players. Located in downtown St. Petersburg, FL, the facility will have 9 indoor and 7 outdoor pickleball courts that will be open to the public later this year.
The club will also offer several other features, including a restaurant, bar, pickleball pro shop, and gym. High-quality showers, bathrooms, and lockers will be available for players, a luxury that isn’t found at your average neighborhood-park court.
In a recent interview with the Tampa Bay Times, St. Pete Athletic managing partner Reuben Pressman discussed how the St. Petersburg community will thrive by having a state-of-the-art pickleball center.
“St. Pete is a perfect place to play. It has all the demographics that are interested in this, from young families all the way up to the senior side that’s been playing it for the longest, to competitive and professional players that are in their 20s and 30s.”
Reuben Pressman, Managing Partner of St. Pete Athletic
Pressman estimates that the city currently has between 24-26 courts. St. Pete’s contribution of 16 more will definitely make an impact in supporting the ever-growing pickleball community.
Additionally, St. Pete plans on offering a wide range of classes and coaching programs to help players of all age groups and skill levels step up their game. The space will also be perfect for hosting professional and amateur tournaments, team-building retreats, and other social events.
While there isn’t a specific opening date set, St. Pete Athletic plans to open its doors to the public sometime later this year. Be sure to follow their website for future updates about the club’s offerings and grand opening celebration.
