Utah-based company The Picklr is set to make its mark across the nation, capitalizing on the strong demand for indoor pickleball facilities.
A Significant Expansion
With seven corporate-owned facilities, The Picklr is rapidly expanding its franchising efforts, targeting 80 facilities across 11 states, including Illinois, in the initial phase of a significant expansion.
Scott Schubiger, Chief Growth Officer, spoke enthusiastically about the overwhelming interest, stating, “We’re just inundated with interest. The market is really, really excited about what we’re bringing.”
The company plans to repurpose vacant large retail spaces in Mundelein, Naperville, and Villa Park, with anticipated openings in December.
Chicago Area To See Up To 20 New Facilities
The Midwest will see its first entries with nine courts in Naperville and eight each in Mundelein and Villa Park.
This ambitious expansion is being driven by 13 new franchisees in the initial phase, with a vision of more than 300 locations across the U.S., according to Schubiger.
He remarked, “It’s a great start out of the gate. Obviously, there’s such a demand (among players) for finding indoor pickleball.”
Schubiger disclosed The Picklr’s plan to establish 18 to 20 facilities in the Chicago area alone. These three inaugural locations join a roster of facilities featuring indoor courts and amenities, with others either already open or on the horizon in the suburbs.
Examples include Sure Shot Pickleball, boasting 11 courts in Naperville, and Pickle Haus, a pickleball-themed restaurant set to open in November with 12 courts in Algonquin.
In Vernon Hills, final approval is expected for PickleMall Inc. to transform the former Toys R Us at Townline Commons into a 14-court indoor pickleball facility.
High Demand For Franchises
The Picklr offers memberships, drop-in playing times, leagues, tournaments, rentals for private events, lessons, and various amenities.
The high demand for franchises is seen as a testament to the strength of its brand.
Established approximately three years ago, The Picklr also holds a stake in Major League Pickle Ball Inc.
Schubiger noted that the company’s six corporate-owned facilities in Utah and one in Colorado have attracted interest from well-capitalized investors looking to expand elsewhere.
“It’s been crazy. I haven’t spent one nickel in lead generation,” Schubiger remarked.
