The 1st And Bowl in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, is launching the “Big Dill” pickleball tournament and league.

Wisconsin winters are renowned for their freezing temperatures and howling winds. However, Wauwatosa, just seven miles from central Milwaukee, has the solution!

“Football Bowling” Venue

Pickleball enthusiasts can now enjoy their favorite sport year-round, thanks to the indoor courts at 1st and Bowl, located at 2969 North 114 Street.

The innovative “Football Bowling” venue is hosting the “Big Dill” pickleball tournament and watch party today from noon to 3 p.m.

Owner Bryan MacKenzie told Courtney Bondar, Multimedia Journalist at On Milwaukee all about it: “We are thrilled to introduce our pickleball league, welcoming players of all levels to join us in the fun.”

An Exhilarating Showdown

The event offers free admission to all attendees on Saturday, providing an opportunity to witness an exhilarating showdown among the top eight pickleball players in the Milwaukee area.

Spectators in the stands stand a chance to win various giveaways, get exclusive league discounts, and enjoy more surprises throughout the day.

However, the excitement doesn’t end there. 1st and Bowl will launch a five-week pickleball league starting on Tuesday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m., ensuring that everyone can partake in the fun.

The league is open to players of all skill levels and features four to five games per 90-minute session.

Giving Back To The Community

Bryan shared the facility’s broader vision of giving back to the community through these leagues:

“We wanted to give back to the community, and launching these leagues is just the beginning,” he said. “In the future, we plan to host tournaments and championships, creating more opportunities for everyone to enjoy pickleball.”

About 1st And Bowl

Established in 2019, 1st and Bowl is the brainchild of three friends: Bryan MacKenzie, Tim Johnson, and Craig Galarneau. Although they didn’t invent football bowling, they were the first to introduce the sport to Milwaukee in a vibrant, family-friendly setting

1st and Bowl is a unique entertainment venue that has now added indoor pickleball to its two other main attractions of football with the fun of bowling.

In addition to football bowling, it also offers basketball Connect 4, indoor golf simulators, nerf arena, a wiffle ball field, and cornhole.

The premises have a full-service bar and kitchen. They can accommodate parties of up to 345 people, making it the perfect place for corporate events, birthday parties, and bachelor/bachelorette parties.

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
