Surprise, Arizona, is gearing up for the return of the Second Annual Surprise Cup pickleball tournament, just one of two exciting Surprise events on the horizon.

Two Major Events

Scheduled from today, Friday, September 29, to Monday, October 2, the Surprise Cup will be held at the Surprise Pickleball Courts located at Dreamcatcher Park, 14534 W Tierra Buena Ln, Surprise, AZ 85374.

Admission is complimentary. For specific event start times and brackets, please visit the Surprise Cup website.

This tournament is just one of two major events Surprise is hosting. The Monster Smash, a sanctioned double-elimination tournament, will feature competitions in women’s doubles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, and senior mixed doubles, running from October 29 to November 1.

Both tournaments are anticipated to draw over 800 players from various parts of the country.

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
