USA Pickleball, the National Governing Body for the sport of pickleball in the United States, is set to host the second annual Diamond Amateur Championship presented by Fortune Tires from December 3-10 at Pictona in Holly Hill, Florida.

Well Over A Thousand Players

A total of 1,192 players aged 12 to 84 will compete, representing 48 states and the District of Columbia, plus several different countries, including Canada, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. The participant split stands at 53% male and 47% female.

Mike Nealy, USA Pickleball’s CEO, anticipates a stellar close to the 2023 tournament season with the Diamond Amateur Championship.

“We look forward to rounding out the 2023 tournament season with a phenomenal event and one of our most prestigious amateur competitions, the Diamond Amateur Championship presented by Fortune Tires,” he said.

“The inaugural edition of this event was a triumph and welcomed such a variety of players in their teens to their 80s from all across America. We similarly look forward to seeing our community, volunteers, and referees return to Florida to finish the year strong.”

Winners will secure pre-registration for the 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships. Details on the 2024 event will be released in due course.

Pictona Directors Rainer and Julie Martens were delighted to welcome players back to Pictona.

“With last year’s event being such a success, we are delighted to welcome our players from all around the country back to Pictona’s facilities,” they said.

“The Diamond Amateur Championship welcomes some of the best amateur players in the nation to compete over a week-long event, and we couldn’t be happier to host this tournament once more.”

When I first started writing about pickleball, I hadn't appreciated the huge range of related features it encompasses: from building communities and players fighting against court closures to overcoming health challenges and raising money for charity, it's a whole new world! I love the stories about the smaller towns from the farthest-flung corners of the U.S. and how those residents have adopted pickleball to create friendships and community spirit.
