The 2023 APP Tour continues with its next stop at Pictona at Holly Hill in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Starting tomorrow, February 8th, more than 1,100 pickleball players from across the nation will come together and compete in this five-day National Championship qualifier tournament.
Pictona at Holly Hill has grown to be one of the nation’s premier pickleball facilities. Boasting 49 separate pickleball courts, including an incredible championship mainstage court, Pictona is expected to see hundreds of pickleball fans come out and cheer on their favorite pro players at this week’s tournament.
Player Spotlight
APP Daytona will be the second APP Tour event of the 2023 season. The league’s first event of 2023, the APP Sunmed Punta Gorda Open, saw several stand-out performances from many of the APP’s pro players.
The biggest headline from the Punta Gorda Open was easily Parris Todd’s exceptional Triple Crown performance.
Todd, who is currently ranked 4th in Women’s Pro Singles, took home the gold in Mixed Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Women’s Singles where she didn’t even drop a game.
Parris Todd’s Mixed Doubles partner, Hunter Johnson, is also an athlete to keep an eye on at APP Daytona.
In addition to his Mixed Doubles victory with Todd, Johnson also managed to take home gold in Men’s Pro Singles and third place in Men’s Pro Doubles with his brother Yates Johnson.
The APP Tour just released an APP Player Spotlight interview with multi-APP gold medalist Andrei Dasecu.
Daescu has been playing pickleball for over 5 years, and recently went full-time as a pro player in 2022. He first started playing in the APP back in 2019, and has been a high level competitor in the league ever since.
“Pickleball gave me a lot of purpose, again. It gave me a second life, in a way … Pickleball means a lot. Pickleball is definitely a purpose to me, and I’m really enjoying my time playing.”
