Sometimes, the name says it all. The SQAIRZ XRZ pickleball shoe gets its name from its most eye-catching feature: a squared-off toe box. And while that roomy front is a standout design element, there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface.

I first came across these shoes on Instagram—curious, then intrigued after reading through some solid reviews. But what really got my attention? The fact that Zane Navratil, a PPA standout and four-time Major League Pickleball champion, helped design them. That sealed it—I had to put them to the test.

After four weeks of serious court time, I’m giving the XRZ a solid 4.5 out of 5 balls. With impressive stability, comfort, and a 6-month outsole warranty, this shoe doesn’t just look different—it performs like it means business.

First Impressions

Right out of the box, the SQAIRZ XRZ (I went with the white/blue colorway) looked solid—functional design, durable build, clean lines. The squared-off toe stood out visually… and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to think. The upper is a thicker Lycra mesh, not your typical ventilated court shoe material, but it felt sturdy.

The sole was especially interesting: split heel/forefoot design, midfoot cutaway, and four lateral outrigger lugs for added width and stability. The silicone toe wrap was extensive, and the rubber-lugged laces spaced every half-inch? Totally new to me.

I wore them around the house first. My size 12 fit perfectly. That squared toe box? Surprisingly comfortable. Arch support felt standard, cushioning was firm but not stiff, and heel support was noticeable. After a mile walk and a few lateral lunges, I had zero complaints. No hot spots, no break-in needed.

Honestly? The first court shoe I’ve worn that felt game-ready on day one.

Game On… Play Testing

First Session: Comfort and Control

I started with a two-hour rec session—and the XRZ delivered right away. Stable during lateral movement, nicely cushioned, and flexible enough for quick transitions. The arch support felt good for me, though some players might want more. No internal foot movement, no slipping, no rubbing. Push-offs and cross-court bursts felt smooth and natural. Despite the 15.4 oz weight, the shoes didn’t feel heavy or clunky.

After two hours, no soreness, no fatigue, and no hotspots. Even better? No sweaty feet—though I’m not typically prone to that anyway.

Four Weeks In: Holding Up Strong

Over the next month, I continued using the XRZ across various rec sessions. No structural issues, and the comfort stayed consistent. My only complaints: the upper fabric attracts dirt easily, and the printed sole details started wearing off. But functionally? Zero issues.

Even on 85º+ days in direct sun, my feet never overheated. And while I was unsure about the squared toe at first, I’ve grown to like it—so have the players who keep asking about them.

If you’ve read my previous reviews, you know the Diadem Court Burst has been my go-to pickleball shoe, with the Holbrook Montis Drop 1.0 a close second for its solid performance and value. So how does the SQAIRZ XRZ compare?

The XRZ was built from the ground up for pickleball, and it shows. From Sta-Put laces to a wide toe box and stability lugs, every detail is engineered for the court. The 30-day trial and 6-month outsole warranty add even more peace of mind—something Diadem doesn’t offer (Montis matches the sole warranty but not the trial period).

Here’s how the three stack up side by side:

XRZ vs. Diadem Court Burst vs. Montis Drop 1.0

While the Court Burst still holds top marks for responsiveness and all-around versatility, the XRZ wins in comfort, width, lacing, and design innovation.

If you like a roomier toe box and strong lateral stability with a touch of flair, the XRZ is definitely worth a test run—especially with that risk-free 30-day trial.

SQAIRZ XRZ Pickleball Shoe Review Rating

If a wide toe box matters most to you, this might be your perfect pickleball shoe. The broad, stable sole with outrigger lugs and a wraparound heel stabilizer delivers standout support. Breathability is average, and the Lycra upper attracts dirt—but it’s easy to clean, as SQAIRZ claims.

Need more arch support? Try swapping in something like the Currex pickleball insole I’ve reviewed.

Yes, it’s the priciest shoe I’ve tested—but only $10 more than the Court Burst, and it comes with a 30-day money-back trial.

Pickle on my friends, pickle on…
