Spring is upon us, meaning that ice skates are finding their places back in the attic, and you now have your eyes on a flashy new pair of pickleball shoes. There’s nothing like hitting the outdoor pickleball courts for the first time each spring!
Fortunately for New York City, Central Park has just become the outdoor pickleball hub of your dreams. CityPickle just announced that they will be converting Wollman Rink into the “largest pickleball installation in the Northeast,” with 14 regulation-sized pickleball courts.
Starting April 7th, CityPickle’s Wollman Rink courts will be open to the public daily from 7am-9pm ET. Court rental pricing ranges from $80-$120 total per hour depending on the time of day that you want to play. In case you accidentally leave the old-reliable Volair paddle at home, the venue will also offer rental paddles for $6 each.
As pickleball continues to explode in popularity as the nation’s fastest-growing sport, the Big Apple has naturally been in desperate need of more and more court space. CityPickle’s founders, Erica Desai and Mary Cannon, knew that they needed to do something for New York’s pickleball community.
Their passion for the sport is clearly represented in their business, as CityPickle has quickly become New York’s home for pickleball. They’ve opened several successful pop-up courts throughout the city since the company started last year, including one at Hudson Yards and another at the legendary TWA Hotel.
CityPickle also recently announced plans to open a permanent location in Long Island City. The new facility is scheduled to open in the late spring and will feature 4 indoor courts, a lounge area, and cocktail/dining accommodations.
New York’s growing pickleball community is deserving of high-quality court space, and that is exactly what CityPickle brings to the table. The brand-new indoor court facility and Wollman Park courts will help cut down on wait times for courts and get more pickleball newcomers into the game quicker.
“Thanks to our partnership with Wollman Park Partners, we are thrilled to offer 196 hours of pickleball play each day in New York’s most iconic destination right in the center of Central Park,”
Erica Desai, Co-Founder of CityPickle
The venue at Wollman Park has proven to be perfect for hosting all sorts of events. From corporate team-building exercises to children’s birthday parties, Wollman Park Partners has created an environment that can accommodate any occasion.
There are nine private courtside cabanas available to rent to ensure that parties have designated areas to enrich their social experience. Some of the cabanas will be directly connected to certain courts in order to create a more engaging environment.
The courts themselves won’t just be your run-of-the-mill neighborhood courts either. CityPickle has partnered with PickleballUnited, the official court partner of the MLP and APP. Their expertise in court surfacing will ensure that all 14 courts will be up to pro-level standards. Nets will be provided by C&D Nets, who also provide nets for the APP and PPA Tours.
Wollman court reservations will be available starting next week on March 31. Be sure to follow CityPickle’s website for more information regarding their courts and services. Get ready, New York, pickleball season is officially upon us!
