Canada now has a professional pickleball league! The Canadian National Pickleball League was officially announced on February 1. It was another wild Championship Sunday at the 2023 APP Sunmed Sacramento Open, hosted at the Johnson Ranch Pickleball Complex. The Championship court saw many familiar faces, and some of those players claimed their first-ever gold medals on the APP Tour. Over 730 players competed at the Sacramento Open, but the finals matches were primarily composed of the stars we tend to see on Championship Sunday. Thaddea Lock, the number one ranked English female pickleball player kept her promise and went back to the Isle of Wight to run some coaching sessions for the island’s best players. She held them over two days at the West Wight Sports and Community Centre in Freshwater on the western tip of the small island. It wasn’t the first time she had coached there: she ran a very well-attended clinic in November last year. Further evidence of the rift between tennis players and pickleballers was clearly visible after an incident in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. The Needham police are investigating an attack by vandals on Mills Field pickleball courts in Needham. The first incident involved someone slashing the nets, and in the second, the nets were thrown out of the courts. On Monday morning, players noticed that four of the six had been shredded.
