It’s official: April is now National Pickleball Month! USA Pickleball (USAPA) recently announced that they will be shining a spotlight on the game we love throughout the month of April.
USAPA is widely considered to be the National Governing Body of the sport, regulating its many rules to ensure that pickleball remains fair and accessible to all of its players. The idea of National Pickleball month was first created in 2018 to embody these values, and USAPA hopes that their 2023 campaign will be the biggest and best one yet.
2023 is already shaping up to be the biggest year yet for the sport. According to the recent 2023 APP Pickleball Participation Research Report for March, 48.3 million adult Americans have played pickleball at least once in the past 12 months. Nearly one-fifth of the total US adult population has played pickleball within the last year, representing a 35% increase since August 2022.
At this point, it’s undeniable that pickleball has become a cultural phenomenon throughout the nation. From NFL players investing in the pro leagues to pickleball courts taking over Central Park, Americans can’t seem to get enough of the highly-accessible racquet sport.
During the month of April, USAPA wants to showcase the many things that are making this sport so popular. Pickleball wouldn’t exist without its millions of players, exciting tournaments, and wonderful venues; so, why not spend a whole month celebrating the things that make this game so special?
Each week of April will highlight a different aspect of the pickleball community. For example, the first week will simply focus on “Why We Love Pickleball.” Whether it’s the people we play with or the incredible shots we pull off, USAPA wants pickleball fans to be able to share their stories with the world.
National Pickleball Month Schedule
April 1-18: Why We Love Pickleball

April 16-22: Member Appreciation
April 23-30: What’s Next/Looking Ahead
The National Pickleball Month campaign will focus on creating and sharing social media content that will tell the stories of people from all walks of the pickleball world. From referees to tournament organizers, the goal is to represent everyone involved in bringing this sport to greater heights.
Chuck Menek, USA Pickleball’s Chief Marketing Officer, thinks that National Pickleball Month will be a great opportunity to give back to the community and to better educate the general public about pickleball.
“National Pickleball Month represents a special opportunity to celebrate the sport of pickleball and everyone in it. It’s intended to be fun, connective and even inspiring—just like pickleball. As the National Governing Body, we’re in a unique position to recognize the countless individuals and groups who come together to form our community and help drive pickleball’s unprecedented growth.”
Chuck Menek, CMO of USA Pickleball
In addition to spreading the love for pickleball through storytelling, USA Pickleball also wants to show support to the community through pickleball-related giveaways. USAPA has partnered with some of pickleball’s top brands to give out thousands of dollars in prizes to those who participate in the April celebration.
