Last weekend was an absolute pickleball party in the mountains of St. George, UT. This year’s PPA Selkirk Red Rock Open saw the return of many pickleball stars to the championship court. A $12 Million grant from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) should be a cause for celebration in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, it’s causing headaches for the Las Vegas City Council. Last Wednesday, the council voted in favor of building a new pickleball complex on a block of BLM land in northwest Vegas. The new complex would include 32 pickleball courts, along with other amenities such as spectator seating and a parking lot.  The city council argues that the complex will provide a much-needed recreational space for residents, and will boost the local economy by attracting pickleball tournaments to the area.…

Walmart is teaming up with Break the Love, a community-based organization that aims to make sports accessible to everyone. The opening day of the 2023 USA Pickleball Atlantic Diamond Regional was held at NYA Sports and Fitness Center, Newtown, CT, welcoming players from 17 states who had registered for the three-day event. The competition began on March 31 and culminated on April 2 in New Haven. According to J.P. Favretto, who was part of the team coordinating the tournament, Newtown hosted the men’s singles matches, plus “well over 120 matches”. The Coshocton Public Library in Central Ohio has expanded its assortment of yard games by adding a new special collection. In addition to cornhole sets and Giant Jenga, patrons can now borrow pickleball sets by presenting either an adult or teen library card. A parent or guardian signature is required if a teen card is used. The library has six pickleball sets available for borrowing: two are family or beginner-friendly, featuring four non-tournament-approved wooden paddles and four game balls. At 18 years old, Maddie Toren is the youngest USA Pickleball certified pickleball referee and line judge.
